Garrod Kirkwood (b. 1979) is an artist, filmmaker and visual storyteller from the UK.
Starting from humble beginnings in the late 90s, a fixation with collecting i-D and The Face magazines ignited an obsession with youth culture, fashion and photo documentary. After studying commercial photography from 2000-2003, a keen interest in storytelling formed and naturally, he began to turn his eye to advertising.
Since setting off on his own in 2006, Garrod has crafted his own visual language. Working around the globe for world-renowned brands and picking up a heap of awards including 3rd place in the prestigious Taylor Wessing Portrait Prize in 2019. His practise focuses on human connection. Within community and subculture.
Today, he still considers himself a purist. With a cinematic eye for colour, composition and light, Garrod applies the same creative energy into his commissions as he does his ongoing personal projects.
